Gambling Health Issues

While the economic and the financial benefits of the Indian gaming industry are boons for individual tribes, there are dangerous addictive behavior issues at stake within the overall gaming industry. Problematic and pathological gambling are real illnesses, characterized by an inability to stop gambling, a dependence on the gaming mentality, and an emotional response pattern of extreme happiness and severe depression. These behaviors are often accompanied by isolation, depression, and alcohol or drug dependencies.Indeed, the risks are huge – pathological gambling may result in financial, familial, and personal devastation. The National Council on Problem Gambling provides background information about the disease. Gambling addiction is an illness. Only through identification, discussion, and support can the problem of gambling addiction be confronted.

If you or a loved one is grappling with a gambling addiction, visit the health clinic in your community for information on mental health specialist. Additionally, the National Institute of Mental Health has the stated mission of addressing historically under-represented populations in their clinical research. Research the National Institute of Mental Health’s outreach site. Seeking professional, confidential help may be the first step towards combating the nationally recognized illness. While Non-native treatments are worthy, one may also consider traditional approaches to gambling addiction. There are numerous health experts working on holistic healing approaches to mental health issues. The web-site for the Association of American Indians offers links to traditional medicine approaches, as does the Alaska Native Knowledge Network site.
