A Medicine Warrior: Dr. David Baines

Dr. David Ray Baines, Tlingit and Tsimshian, trains physicians at the Alaska Family Practice Residency Program in Anchorage. His primary interest is family medicine, and he has held positions at the Seattle Indian Health Board, Providence Seattle, the Kamiah Tribal Clinic of the Nez Perce Tribe and at hospitals across the country. He has been a member of the clinical faculties at the University of Washington and the University of Nevada schools of medicine.

Dr. Baines is a graduate of Arizona State University in Tempe, and received his M.D. from the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. A Henry J. Kaiser Foundation Merit Scholar, he has published numerous articles on Indian health issues and diseases. He was interviewed earlier this year in Seattle by Tribal Connections Editor Roy Sahali.
