Native American/Alaska Native Resources
- American Indian and Alaska Native Programs
Based at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center this suite of programs covers topics as diverse as elder health,
substance abuse, telehealth and mental health.
- American Indian Health Central's (AIHC) Health Section
Each link is to a simple, easy-to-read fact sheet about a disease or condition. These are created to reach their main target
audience of American Indians. One drawback is that not all of the fact sheets name the source of their information or give an
author. The home page gives a brief explanation of what AIHC is but gives no names or qualifications of the organization's
members.
-
healthfinder® – American
Indians and Alaska Natives
This area of the healthfinder® Web site from DHHS has links to many resources on topics relevant to Native Americans and
Alaska Natives. Most of the links are to information from other federal government agencies, although not exclusively.
- Culture-Sensitive Health Care: American Indian
From the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Virginia Tech, this page discusses cultural, spiritual and other beliefs and practices
that might affect health care of American Indians.
- MedlinePlus® – Native American Health

A list of reviewed, high quality Web links concerned with various aspects of Native American health.
- Native Health Databases
The two Native Health Databases at the University of New Mexico "contain bibliographic information and abstracts of health-related
articles, reports, surveys, and other resource documents pertaining to the health and health care of American Indians, Alaska
Natives, and Canadian First Nations." A great resource for researchers.
- Native Web Resource Database/Health
A list of links to health resources that all highlight indigenous cultures worldwide; not all, but most, focus on Native Americans
- Providers Guide to
Quality and Culture: Cultural Groups – Native Americans
A portion of this interesting guide is devoted to traditional healing and what providers need to know about this tradition in
American Indian culture. A "Providers Perspective" was given by a Mohawk physician, Theresa M. Maresca, M.D.
