Injury Prevention

Traumatic injuries are a serious public health problem among American Indians and Alaska Natives. The Centers for Disease Control finds they are the leading cause of death among American Indians and Alaska Natives between the ages of one and 44, and the third leading cause of death overall. These include injury death from car/pedestrian crashes, suicides, homicides, poisonings, drowning and residential fires. The Indian Health Service has made injury prevention a top priority.
