Tribal Colleges

The movement for Indian self-determination includes a strong commitment to education and the development of legislative efforts to support Indian higher education. Over the next several years, tribal colleges located on federal trust territories are expected to experience a surge in enrollment growth. Efforts are underway to preserve and increase funding for tribal colleges and to provide increased educational opportunities for Indian youth.

  AIHEC's mission is to support the work of the tribal colleges within the consortium, as well as supporting the national movement for tribal self-determination.

• Association of Native American Medical Students
  ANAMS represents Native American graduate stusents throughout the United States and Canada and is comprised of students enrolled in medical school or allied health professions including dentistry, veterinary, optometry, podiatry and pharmacy. ANAMS provides support and resource networking and seeks to increase the number of Native American students in the health professions.

• Institute of American Indian Arts
  The Institute of American Indian Arts is committed to the post secondary education of Native American Indians. We offer degrees in creative writing, studio arts, visual communications and museum studies. Our campus in Santa Fe, New Mexico features a museum of contemporary Native American fine art.


• Office of Minority Health: Tribal Colleges and Universities
  Tribal Colleges have become increasingly important in providing educational opportunity for American Indians, and are unique institutions that combine personal attention with cultural relevance. They serve geographically isolated populations and encourage American Indians - especially those living on reservations - to pursue higher education.

  America's tribal colleges and universities formed the American Indian College Fund to raise money for scholarships, endowments and operating money. It is the nation's largest provider of privately funded Indian scholarships.
